Frequently Asked Questions
Are you really THAT good at teaching Hebrew?
Yes. Because I learned Hebrew as a second language, and due to my difficulties with foreign languages, I have become an expert in how to learn Hebrew. Plus, I am a very good teacher in general.
I know first-hand what you are going through because I went through it myself, and I figured out how to succeed despite all the obstacles. I tried learning from Israelis — and so did many, many of my clients. It did not work well because they simply didn’t understand how an adult should learn the language.
I know what works and what doesn’t. I know what’s important, and what not to waste time on. And I am really good at finding solutions to learning problems — even ones which have frustrated my clients for years.

Yes.
I wrote above that I was very untalented at learning Hebrew. This was true even though I was otherwise a very successful student. (I have a degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University.)
I have a lot of experience teaching intelligent people with a variety of learning issues. If you really do have a problem — other than bad teachers — there is a good chance I can identify what is holding you back.
What happens if I miss a class?
I plan on recording the sessions, so you can review what you missed later.
What If I join and then decide to quit?
You can quit at any time, for any reason or no reason.
That said, I strongly encourage you to attend three months of weekly sessions before you make a decision about whether my method is working for you. I am confident that after three months classes you will see significant progress.
Do you teach Modern or Biblical Hebrew?
The short answer is that I can teach either or both. It will depend on the desires of the group.
That said, Biblical and Modern Hebrew are extremely similar – and in many cases identical. The two “versions” overlap probably 95% of the time or more. There are some obvious differences, but when you are learning one you are pretty much learning the other.
Are you willing to teach people from different backgrounds?
Yes. I am used to teaching people from many different backgrounds —probably including yours — in a patient and supportive way. I am happy you are learning Hebrew, and I am glad I can help you learn faster.
I have known Seth Young personally and professionally for decades. He is known by professionals from both within and outside his field for being intelligent, conscientious, and unfailingly respectful of others.

We will meet once a week for 50 minutes. I plan to make recordings of the classes so that you can review them and/or make up for any missed sessions. If you regularly review the materials we learn together in our sessions, you will see a significant change in your Hebrew within the first three months.
And by “significant”, I mean you will be able to do and understand things in Hebrew that you never could before.
This will open doors to Hebrew texts, spoken Hebrew and/or Torah learning that have been closed to you until now. You may even be shocked how easily you were able to overcome some “insurmountable” challenges. It’s going to be very satisfying.
